• "And ain't never looked back," Brent thought as he turned from Bonner Drive onto Burstyn Highway.
• "Aw man!" he let a rare smile crease his face as he spotted the sign for Dawson's BBQ. "That, I, I can't believe that place is still open!"
• The dashboard clock told Brent that it was one thirteen in the afternoon. He put the blinker on and turned into the parking lot. A brief cold gust of wind cut through him as he got out of the nondescript rental car and marched to the heavy wooden door. A few pellets of icy snow struck him, struck the door and melted immediately. Brent paused for a moment; snow that melted would accumulate on the roads, turning into ice. He knew how to drive in icy conditions but also knew that very few of the people in this area would have the skills or the wherewithal to navigate the icy conditions safely.
